Why are you thinking about therapy? Most people consider it when they experience discomfort in their emotional lives and find their usual methods for coping just don't work anymore. Or, they are having problematic feelings and behaviors that interfere with their lives. Some common issues that lead people to decide to go to a therapist include:
- Struggling to go through the motions of everyday routines
- Vague and persistent sense of dread
- Emotional "unease"
- Feeling off balance, or out of it
- Trouble with excessive use of alcohol or drugs
- Family issues that never seem to get resolved
- Your usual strategies for "getting out of the dumps" don't work any more
If you have been feeling like this, please come in for a free initial consultation to see if we can collaborate on an approach to help identify ways to ease this discomfort, and improve your quality of life.
THERAPY from the Greek, "to serve." You receive the guidance and assistance without the strings that come attached from seeking help or advice from family and friends, and without the risk that disclosure of personal thoughts will change your relationship with them. Unlike other relationships, your relationship with your therapist has one sole purpose - to help you make the changes you want to make in your life in a confidential, safe setting.
I also offer Neurofeedback, a relatively new, exciting technology that utilizes an EEG and computer to help "train" your brain to learn to increase certain brainwaves that are helpful for improved functioning. Neurofeedback training helps regulate sleep, emotions, ways of thinking, and can dramatically reduce certain problematic behaviors. For more information about this type of treatment, there is an excellent book, "The Symphony in the Brain," by Jim Robbins, who is a science writer for the New York Times. You can also visit www.eegspectrum.com. This site also offers extensive information about neurofeedback.
